Delhi Logs Season's Hottest Day at 41.9°C

Delhi recorded its highest temperature of the season on Wednesday, with the mercury soaring to 41.9 degrees Celsius. The city witnessed a severe heatwave, making it the hottest day so far this year.

Heatwave Conditions Grip the Capital

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the maximum temperature touched 41.9°C, five degrees above normal for this time of the year. The minimum temperature also settled at 25.6°C, which is two degrees above the average.

Residents struggled with the intense heat, with many seeking refuge indoors or in shaded areas. The IMD has issued a heatwave warning for the next two days, urging people to take precautions.

Health Advisory Issued

Authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours. Hospitals have been put on alert to handle heat-related illnesses.

The heatwave is expected to persist for the next 48 hours, with temperatures likely to remain above 40°C. However, a slight relief may come from possible thundershowers towards the weekend.

Delhi's air quality also deteriorated, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching the 'poor' category. The combination of high temperatures and pollution has made conditions uncomfortable for residents.

This is the first major heatwave of the season in the national capital, which often experiences such extreme weather in May and June. Officials have advised people to take adequate measures to stay cool and safe.
