Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, has expressed grave concern over the former prime minister's worsening health condition while in custody. She has urgently demanded that he be transferred to Shifa Hospital in Islamabad and be granted family access.
Health Deterioration in Jail
According to sources, Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail, is suffering from multiple health issues that have worsened in recent days. His legal team and family members have repeatedly highlighted the lack of adequate medical facilities in the prison, leading to further complications.
Demand for Immediate Transfer
Aleema Khan, in a statement, emphasized the urgency of shifting the PTI founder to a well-equipped hospital. She stated, "Imran Khan's health is deteriorating rapidly. The jail authorities are not providing proper medical care. We demand his immediate transfer to Shifa Hospital, where he can receive specialized treatment." She also insisted that family members be allowed to visit him regularly to monitor his condition.
The PTI chief has been facing a series of legal cases since his ouster from power, and his health has been a recurring issue. Earlier, his party workers and supporters had staged protests demanding better healthcare for him.
Political Implications
The deteriorating health of Imran Khan has sparked political tensions in Pakistan. Opposition parties have criticized the government for neglecting the health of a former prime minister. Meanwhile, the government has maintained that he is receiving all necessary medical attention as per jail protocols.
Aleema Khan's plea comes at a time when the political landscape in Pakistan is highly charged, with the PTI demanding the release of their leader. The demand for a hospital shift with family access is seen as a crucial step to ensure his well-being.
The matter is expected to be taken up by the courts, with the PTI planning to file a petition seeking a medical board to assess Imran Khan's health and recommend appropriate treatment.
