In a remarkable display of quick thinking and medical expertise, a 21-year-old woman from Dharmabad in Nanded district, approximately 330 kilometers from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, safely delivered a baby on Sunday thanks to the timely intervention of government ambulance staff.
Emergency Call and Swift Response
The woman's relatives contacted the government ambulance service at 5:40 am when she went into labor. The ambulance, carrying medical officer Dr. Dnyaneshwar Srigire, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the medical team assessed the situation and realized that there was no time to transport the expectant mother to a hospital.
Delivery at the Shanty
Dr. Srigire examined the woman and discovered that the baby's descent from the womb had already begun. With no time to spare, he performed the necessary medical procedures at the family's shanty. It was a natural delivery, and the doctor carefully cut the umbilical cord before shifting both mother and newborn to a hospital for further care.
The baby girl weighed approximately 3 kilograms. Both mother and child are now stable and in good health, according to Dr. Srigire.
Praise for the Medical Team
Dr. Srigire and ambulance driver Gautam Khandagale have received widespread praise from higher officials in the health department for their presence of mind and prompt action. Their efforts ensured a safe delivery under challenging circumstances.
This incident highlights the critical role of emergency medical services in rural areas, where timely access to hospitals can be limited. The government ambulance service continues to be a lifeline for many families in the region.
