Puri: Two minor brothers drowned while bathing in the Bhargavi river near Chandanpur in Odisha's Puri district on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Aditya Ray (12) and Sai Krishna Ray (14), sons of Babu Ray and Kabu Ray of Ketaki Patna village. The siblings had gone to the river at Janakadeipur along with others for a bath when the tragedy occurred.
Their relative, Lipu Ranjan Sahoo, said the siblings were seen struggling in the water before being swept into a deeper portion of the river. Local residents immediately rushed to their rescue and pulled them out of the water. The boys were first taken to Chandanpur hospital and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Puri. However, doctors declared both dead on arrival.
Chandanpur police station IIC Biranchi Sahoo said police have recovered the bodies and begun a probe into the incident. The bodies were sent for post-mortem.
