Chennai: A tragic incident unfolded in Aminjikarai where a 25-year-old woman killed her three-month-old daughter and later died by suicide at her home. The woman, identified as Dharini, was found unconscious along with her infant, Shreya, by her mother-in-law Radhika on Friday night.
Incident Details
Dharini lived with her husband Praveen (29), who runs a tattoo studio in Nungambakkam, their daughters Shreya and Kavya, his mother Veena (54), and his mother-in-law Radhika (51). On Friday, Praveen left for work, and Radhika took Kavya to a private hospital for stomach pain. When Radhika returned at night, she found Dharini and Shreya lying unconscious. Neighbors rushed them to a private hospital, but doctors referred them to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, where both were declared dead on arrival.
Police Investigation
The Aminjikarai police have registered a case. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Dharini had been undergoing treatment for depression since childhood, and her condition worsened after childbirth. Investigators are examining whether the infant died from strangulation or poisoning and are awaiting postmortem results.
