Chandrapur: The Rapid Response Team (RRT) of Tadoba on Monday night captured one of the four sub-adult cubs of tigress T-2, which had been responsible for the killing of four women in the Sindewahi forest range of Chandrapur.
Operation Details
Range forest officer Anjali Sayankar reported that the 17-month-old cub was tranquilized and captured around 9:30 PM in the Pawanpar area, the same location where the mother tigress had been tranquilized on Saturday. The operation was led by RRT sharpshooter Ajay Marate under the supervision of veterinary officer Dr. Ravikant Khobragade.
Tracking and Capture
Forest officials noted that the cubs had been detected by camera traps on Sunday evening and again early Monday. However, dense vegetation and difficult terrain allowed them to evade capture for several hours, prompting authorities to intensify the operation. A 77-member team has been deployed in the forest, supported by drone surveillance, mobile sensor live cameras, and nearly 30 trap cameras to monitor the remaining cubs' movements.
Although baits have been set across the forest to lure the tiger cubs, Sayankar explained that the captured cub was eventually tracked while searching for its mother. The search for the remaining three cubs continues on an urgent basis.
