Sandstorm Hits Rajasthan, Heat to Return Thursday

A powerful sandstorm swept through the districts of Jaisalmer, Jalore, and Jodhpur on Sunday, while thunderstorms and rainfall continued to offer respite from the heat across the state. However, the Met office has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to return from Thursday next week.

Sandstorm Impact in Jaisalmer and Surroundings

Clouds of dust were observed rising over the Sultanana and Mohangarh areas of Jaisalmer before moving across the region. In Ramgarh, a severe sandstorm drastically reduced visibility, enveloped the town in darkness, and caused disruptions in electricity supply.

This latest weather activity follows Saturday's intense dust storm that affected more than 15 districts. According to records, wind speeds exceeded 80 kmph in several locations, with the highest wind speed of 102 kmph recorded at Kishangarh Airport.

Temperature Drop Across Rajasthan

The combined effect of dust storms, rain, and hailstorms has led to a significant drop in temperatures across Rajasthan. Over the past three days, maximum temperatures have decreased by 9 to 12 degrees Celsius in several cities.

Barmer recorded the state's highest maximum temperature on Sunday at 42 degrees Celsius, followed by Jaisalmer at 41.5 degrees Celsius. Jaipur experienced a pleasant morning with a minimum temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius, which is 6.3 degrees below normal. The city later recorded a maximum of 35.6 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees below normal, amid hazy conditions and mild evening storms. No significant rainfall was reported in the city.

Rainfall Data and Tree Uprooting in Udaipur

Bhilwara received 19 mm of rain, Churu 14.8 mm, and Ajmer 11.8 mm during the last 24 hours. Jaipur recorded 4.2 mm of rainfall, while light rain and drizzle were reported from several other districts.

In Udaipur, strong winds and thunderstorms on Saturday night uprooted several trees. A major accident was narrowly avoided when a tree fell on a motorcycle moments after its riders managed to move away.

Forecast: Rain Likely, Heat to Return from Thursday

The Met office has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of Rajasthan over the next three days. However, from Thursday, the mercury is expected to take an upward swing, with heatwave conditions likely to revive.
