Gurgaon continued to experience intense heat on Tuesday, with the maximum temperature soaring to 43.4 degrees Celsius, a sharp rise from 41.6 degrees Celsius recorded the previous day. Heatwave conditions persisted across Haryana, making life difficult for residents.
Temperature Trends and Nighttime Relief
Despite the scorching daytime temperatures, the city witnessed comparatively cooler nights. The minimum temperature dropped to 24.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, seven notches below the 31.2 degrees Celsius recorded on Monday. This provided some respite from the relentless heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that heatwave conditions were observed at isolated places across Haryana. Sirsa recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 46 degrees Celsius. Warm night conditions were also reported from some pockets, adding to the discomfort.
Heat Alerts and Forecast
District-wise warnings issued by the weather department placed Gurgaon under a "be prepared" heat alert for May 26 and 27, indicating the likelihood of continued heatwave-like conditions over the next two days. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions.
However, the IMD has forecast a change in weather from May 28 under the influence of a western disturbance. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely in Gurgaon and several other districts between May 28 and May 30. This may lead to a gradual fall in temperatures, providing much-needed relief.
Health Advisory
The weather department advised residents to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Special care should be taken for children, elderly people, and those with existing health conditions.
