Record Rainfall and Temperature Drop
The 24-hour deluge, which concluded Saturday morning, marks the city's highest single-day rainfall volume in recent weeks. The weather system dragged the maximum day temperature down to a chilly 28.8°C — almost 10 degrees below the seasonal average and the lowest recorded in three years. Overnight temperatures similarly fell to 20.2°C, more than five degrees below normal.
IMD Forecast
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that the unseasonably cool conditions will persist, with a brief reprieve on Sunday ahead of another three-day spell of rain and thundershowers starting June 17.
Residents' Relief
The weather shift has been met with widespread relief by locals after weeks of oppressive conditions. “The change in weather has been refreshing,” said Model Town resident Gurpreet Singh. “It feels much more comfortable compared to the scorching conditions we were experiencing earlier.”
Impact Across Punjab
While the weekend downpour disrupted daily life in poorly drained sectors, the regional weather system brought widespread relief across Punjab, with Faridkot recording the state's highest rainfall.
