Karnataka's first waste-to-charcoal plant, located in Hubballi-Dharwad, has successfully completed its trial run. This facility is the first of its kind in the state, according to Rajeev Bhatia, deputy general manager of NVVN (NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam).

The plant utilizes torrefaction technology to convert municipal solid waste into torrefied charcoal, a cleaner and more efficient fuel.
