The Xteink X4 is a credit card-sized portable e-reader. It features a 4.3-inch e-ink screen and uses magnetic attachment to cling to phones that support Qi2 or MagSafe technology. Weighing a mere 74 grams, it can function either as a phone accessory or as a standalone device.
Under the hood, it is powered by an ESP32 microcontroller, which provides Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. For storage, it comes with a 32GB microSD card, though it operates with just 128MB of RAM. The standout feature is its impressive battery performance. The device is backed by a 650mAh battery that can deliver up to 14 days of use on a single charge, assuming daily reading sessions of one to three hours.
Design, Features, and Limitations
The design philosophy is minimalist and functional. The X4 does not have a touchscreen; instead, it relies on physical buttons on the side for navigation. It also lacks a built-in backlight, meaning readers will need an external light source for nighttime use.
In terms of file support, the reader handles popular formats like ePUB, TXT, BMP, and JPG. Xteink suggests the device can be used for more than just books; it's capable of displaying boarding passes, membership cards, and calendars. The package includes two pre-installed fonts, with the option for users to install their own.
