Volvo EX60 Electric SUV Makes Global Debut on New SPA3 Platform
Swedish automaker Volvo Cars has officially unveiled the new Volvo EX60 electric midsize SUV to the global market. This significant launch marks the first vehicle built on Volvo's dedicated EV-specific SPA3 architecture, positioning it as the direct electric successor and alternative to the popular XC60 model. The EX60 is set to make its initial market entry in Europe, with plans for a subsequent introduction across the Americas at a later stage.
Powertrain and Performance Specifications
The Volvo EX60 will be available in multiple trim levels, with variations in battery capacity, power output, and driving range across the lineup. The entry-level P6 Electric variant features an 83kWh battery pack powering a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 374 horsepower and 480Nm of torque. Stepping up, the P10 AWD model adds a front motor and a larger 95kWh battery, boosting combined output to 510 horsepower and 710Nm of torque.
At the pinnacle of the range sits the P12 AWD variant, which pairs a substantial 117kWh battery with a dual-motor setup producing an impressive 680 horsepower and 790Nm of torque. According to WLTP testing standards, the claimed ranges stand at up to 620km for the P6, 660km for the P10, and an exceptional 810km for the top-tier P12 variant.
Advanced Charging Capabilities
All EX60 variants share common fast-charging capabilities that represent cutting-edge EV technology. The SUV supports DC fast charging of up to 400kW, enabling remarkably quick replenishment from 10 to 80 percent battery capacity in under 20 minutes. Additionally, the vehicle accommodates AC charging at speeds of up to 22kW for convenient home or destination charging.
Cross Country Variant with Enhanced Capability
The Volvo EX60 is also offered in a specially equipped Cross Country version designed for enhanced versatility. This variant adds 20mm of additional ground clearance, durable stainless-steel skid plates for underbody protection, and distinctive matte-black body cladding. It features an exclusive Frost Green exterior shade, a unique interior theme with premium materials, Cross Country badging on the D-pillar and bumpers, and adaptive air suspension with a dedicated off-road mode for improved capability on varied terrain.
Exterior Design and Styling Elements
The EX60 follows Volvo's contemporary design language with a closed-grille front fascia that emphasizes its electric identity. The front features a split headlamp arrangement incorporating the signature Thor's Hammer LED daytime running lights, with the main LED headlamps positioned lower on the bumper for optimal illumination.
Along the sides, the SUV presents clean surfaces with subtle lines around the wheel arches and doors. A sculpted crease and black cladding run along the lower doors, while illuminated wing-style door handles replace conventional handles for improved aerodynamics and modern aesthetics. Wheel options range from 20 to 22 inches, with wider rear tires providing enhanced traction and stability.
At the rear, the EX60 features slim LED tail-lamps, a black strip across the upper tailgate, substantial black cladding, and a thin silver insert on the bumper. Buyers can choose between two exterior themes: the Bright theme with silver accents on door sills and bumpers, or the Dark theme featuring black finishes throughout.
Interior Features and Technology
Inside the Volvo EX60, occupants are greeted by a sophisticated dual-tone cabin with a layered dashboard design that creates a sense of depth and luxury. The interior is packed with advanced technology, including an 11.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 15-inch Android-based infotainment touchscreen that serves as the command center for vehicle functions.
Notable features include an electrochromic glass roof that can adjust transparency, heated and ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat with memory function, Apple CarPlay integration, comprehensive connected car technology, over-the-air (OTA) update capability, and the Google Gemini AI assistant for enhanced voice control and functionality.
Audio entertainment is handled by a premium 21-speaker Bose sound system, with an optional upgrade to an exceptional 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio setup for audiophiles. Rear passengers benefit from reclining seats for added comfort during longer journeys.
Safety and Driver Assistance Systems
The Volvo EX60 comes equipped with advanced driver assistance systems that build upon Volvo's longstanding reputation for safety. These systems utilize multiple sensors, cameras, and radar technology to provide comprehensive protection and convenience features designed to prevent accidents and enhance the driving experience.
