Toyota's Urban Cruiser EV Set for Indian Debut Tomorrow
Toyota Kirloskar Motor prepares to launch its new electric SUV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, in the Indian market tomorrow. The official reveal happens on January 20, 2026. This move marks Toyota's entry into India's mass-market electric vehicle segment. The SUV will compete directly with models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
The Urban Cruiser EV shares most core components with the Suzuki e-Vitara. However, Toyota adds its own design touches to distinguish the model.
Distinctive Design and Dimensions
The overall silhouette of the Urban Cruiser EV looks similar to the Suzuki e-Vitara. Toyota gives it a unique front design with a wide, sculpted grille. This feature aligns with Toyota's typical design language.
On the sides, the SUV resembles the Urban SUV concept model. It features black plastic cladding and rear door handles placed in the C-pillar. The vehicle comes with 18-inch or 19-inch aerodynamically designed alloy wheels.
At the rear, connecting taillights and an integrated spoiler create a familiar look. Other design highlights include a high-mounted stop lamp, a skid plate, and a small squarish fog lamp on the lower bumper.
In terms of dimensions, the Urban Cruiser EV measures 4,285mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,640mm in height. It boasts a generous 2,700mm wheelbase and a turning radius of 5.2 metres.
Interior Features and Technology
The interior closely mirrors the e-Vitara, with the Toyota logo on the steering wheel as a key difference. It features floating dual screens: a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen.
A floating centre console finished in gloss black houses controls for gear selection, e-brake, and drive mode selection. It also includes a wireless charging pad.
Other interior elements include:

- Rectangular AC vents with brushed silver surrounds

Notable features encompass wireless smartphone mirroring, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, and a wireless charger. The SUV also offers an electric parking brake with auto hold, ADAS, and a 360-degree camera.
Battery Options and Performance
The Urban Cruiser EV will come with two battery options: a 49kWh pack and a larger 61kWh unit. The 61kWh battery is expected to deliver a range of up to 550 km on a full charge.
The 49kWh battery pairs with a single motor on the front axle, producing 144hp. The 61kWh battery also uses a single motor but outputs 174hp. Both motors generate identical torque of 189Nm.
An all-wheel-drive version features a dual motor setup, with one motor on each axle. This configuration delivers 184hp and 300Nm of torque.
Toyota's launch tomorrow signals a significant step in India's evolving electric vehicle landscape. Consumers now have another compelling option in the mid-size electric SUV category.
