FIR Filed Against Comedian Pranit More Over Obscene Content

Stand-up comedian Pranit More has been in the news ever since an audience member at his show sparked controversy by sharing a story about a date. The audience member, Himanshu Jangra from Gurugram, recounted that after spending Rs 370 on chicken biryani during a date, he expected physical intimacy in return. He further described kissing and touching her, convincing her despite her reluctance. While Himanshu faced backlash and lost his job, the internet also criticized Pranit for laughing at the remarks instead of intervening or correcting him.

Legal Action Initiated

According to the latest update, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has registered an FIR against Pranit More and others. The Office of the Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra Cyber, stated: "Maharashtra Cyber continues to monitor online platforms and social media ecosystems to identify and take appropriate action against content and activities that may violate applicable laws and adversely affect public order, dignity, and societal interests."

The FIR, registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station under sections 75(1)(iv), 75(3), 294, 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, targets Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Dr. Sejal Pawar, and others involved in publishing and disseminating allegedly obscene and objectionable content through online platforms and social media.

Celebrity Reactions and Public Debate

Many celebrities, including Ayesha Khan and Kusha Kapila, criticized Pranit for amplifying the remark instead of challenging it. Although both Himanshu and Pranit later issued apologies, the incident has ignited a larger conversation about accountability in comedy, audience interactions, and the responsibility of content creators when sharing potentially harmful views. Meanwhile, Pranit has deactivated his Instagram account.

This case highlights the ongoing scrutiny of online content and the legal boundaries of comedy in India. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell continues to investigate, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order and dignity in digital spaces.
