Actor Vijay Sethupathi recently captured widespread attention after making a significant request to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay during the audio launch event of the film 'Parimala & Co.' During his speech, Vijay Sethupathi openly addressed the challenges confronting the film industry following the sudden surge and subsequent decline of the OTT market.
Vijay Sethupathi requests a government OTT platform for Tamil cinema
Speaking directly about the issue, Vijay Sethupathi stated, “Honourable Chief Minister Vijay sir, I have a request. As Kamal sir had earlier suggested, it would be beneficial if the government initiates an OTT platform soon.” As reported by Puthiya Thalaimurai, he elaborated that many producers and filmmakers are currently uncertain about where to take their films after the unexpected slowdown in the OTT business. “Suddenly, OTT became a massive market. It elevated cinema to great heights and then gradually stepped away. Now, numerous individuals in the industry are facing difficulties,” he added. The actor urged the government to regulate the OTT business appropriately so that filmmakers can regain stability.
The actor also demands an increase in theatre ticket prices
Apart from OTT concerns, Vijay Sethupathi also addressed the issue of theatre ticket prices remaining unchanged for several years. “Everything has become costly now. Film production expenses have escalated significantly. But ticket prices are still the same,” he remarked during the event. Vijay Sethupathi noted that this matter had been troubling him for a long time, and he finally decided to speak openly about it on stage. According to him, a slight increase in ticket prices could assist producers and distributors in managing the rising costs within the industry. His candid speech garnered attention from both film enthusiasts and industry members online.
Vijay Sethupathi and Vijay earlier shared screen space in 'Master'
