UPRTOU to Launch AI, ML, Data Analytics Skill Courses from July 2026

Prayagraj: Students aspiring to build careers in emerging technologies will soon have an opportunity to acquire industry-relevant skills at Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU), the state’s sole open university. The institution is planning to introduce a series of skill-based courses in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), data analytics, and other digital technologies starting from the upcoming academic session in July 2026.

The decision follows a recent high-level discussion between university officials and representatives of TransNeuro IBM and Route to Roots regarding a proposed tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU). This collaboration aims to strengthen industry-academia partnerships and equip students with skills that are increasingly in demand across national and international job markets.

Vice-Chancellor Highlights Importance of AI and ML

Vice-Chancellor Prof Satyakam emphasized that AI and machine learning are transforming sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, finance, administration, and research. He stressed that higher education institutions must adapt to these changes and prepare students for future challenges through practical and employment-oriented training. Under the proposed collaboration, the university plans to offer short-term and certificate programs in AI, machine learning, data analytics, digital skills, and other industry-focused technical domains. Students will receive hands-on training from experts, enabling them to develop competencies required in the rapidly evolving technology sector.

Objective Beyond Degrees

Prof. Satyakam stated that the university’s objective extends beyond awarding degrees and includes empowering learners with future-ready skills that enhance employability. Subject to approval by the university’s competent bodies, the courses are expected to commence from the July 2026 session. The programs will be open to intermediate-pass students, undergraduates, and other learners interested in acquiring technical expertise. Through the university’s distance and online learning system, students from remote parts of Uttar Pradesh will also be able to access the courses.

Bridging Education and Industry

The university’s public relations officer, Prabhat Chandra Mishra, said the initiative would create a strong bridge between higher education, skill development, and industry while opening up better employment and self-employment opportunities for thousands of youth across the state. This move is expected to significantly benefit students in rural and underserved areas, providing them with access to cutting-edge technological education.
