RPF, GRP Probe Incident Where Assistant Loco Pilot Injured

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) of the Vijayawada division of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) have launched an investigation into an incident involving an assistant loco pilot (ALP) of train number 12616, the Grand Trunk Express from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Chennai. The ALP sustained minor injuries while on duty on June 3 after being struck by an unidentified object.

Incident Details

According to the preliminary statement of the injured ALP, a food packet containing a hard object is suspected to have struck the locomotive while train number 22816 was crossing on the adjacent down line. Following the incident, the RPF Ongole Post police registered a case.

Search Operations

Railway authorities stated that the RPF and GRP police, based on the ALP's statement, conducted extensive searches during the night along the railway track and adjoining areas near the incident location, situated between level crossing gate numbers 185 and 186, as well as in the vicinity of train number 22816. No suspicious persons were found during the search operation.

Medical Response

The authorities confirmed that the injured ALP was immediately provided first aid at the Ongole Government General Hospital (GGH) and subsequently shifted to the Vijayawada Divisional Railway Hospital, where he remains under medical supervision. Medical examination confirmed that his condition is stable. Doctors have recommended minor suturing for an injury to the hand, while all other health parameters are reported to be normal.
