Refrigerator blast injures woman, two daughters in Patna

A devastating fire broke out in a home in Patna's Noorpur Chandmari area on Wednesday night after a refrigerator compressor exploded. The incident left a woman and her two daughters with severe burn injuries. The residence belongs to former soldier Satendra Rai, who was out with his son at the time of the blast.

Victims and Injuries

The injured have been identified as Sarita Devi (38), wife of Satendra Rai, and their daughters Kriti Kumari (17) and Preeti Kumari (15). All three sustained burn injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a private clinic on Khagaul Road. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Sequence of Events

According to preliminary findings, the refrigerator compressor on the upper floor suddenly exploded, sparking the blaze. The fire spread rapidly, engulfing the room and igniting a nearby gas cylinder, which worsened the situation. At the time of the incident, Rai was at a local market with his son, Ravinesh, while his wife and daughters were at home. They attempted to escape after the fire broke out but sustained burn injuries in the process.

Rescue and Response

Local residents, alerted by the explosion, rushed to the spot, rescued the victims, and took them to the hospital. A fire department team arrived shortly after. Assistant district fire officer Shashikant Sharma noted that the narrow approach road prevented larger fire engines from accessing the site, forcing the deployment of two smaller fire tenders. With assistance from locals, firefighters brought the blaze under control after considerable effort. By then, most household items had been reduced to ashes.

Investigation

Police and the fire department have launched an investigation. Officials stated that a detailed technical examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. The family is receiving support from neighbors and local authorities.
