The cyber cell of Panchkula police has successfully traced 25 lost and stolen mobile phones over the past month and returned them to their rightful owners. In a recent event, recipients of the recovered phones met Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta and expressed their gratitude. The DCP commended the cyber team for their round-the-clock efforts and technical expertise in tracking the missing devices.
Recovery Statistics and Beneficiary Stories
According to police officials, a total of 70 mobile phones have been recovered so far this year and handed back to their owners. Among the beneficiaries was Manshika, who had lost her phone three years ago in Sector 21 market. She mentioned that she recently received a call from the cyber cell informing her that her device had been located and recovered.
Process for Filing Complaints on CEIR Portal
Police also explained the procedure for filing complaints on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal at ceir.gov.in to block and trace lost or stolen phones. Complainants are required to first file a First Information Report (FIR) at the nearest police station. Subsequently, they need to submit details such as mobile number, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, brand of the phone, place of loss, and upload relevant documents. Upon successful submission, a request ID is generated, which can be used for tracking the status of the recovery.
The cyber cell's proactive approach has been instrumental in reuniting owners with their devices, and the police encourage citizens to report lost or stolen phones promptly to enhance the chances of recovery.
