Imtiaz Ali Imagines a Crossover of His Iconic Characters
In an exclusive conversation with ETimes, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali got candid about what would happen if all his beloved characters from different movies, across genres and years, came together. The characters include Jordan, Geet, Ved, Tara, Veera, Heer, Jai, Meera, and Chamkeela. The filmmaker was given various situations, and for each, he had the perfect reply.
Who Would Order for the Entire Table Without Asking?
In the first scenario, all characters are at a dinner table. When asked who would order for everyone without consulting others, Imtiaz Ali said, “I think Geet (from ‘Jab We Met’) will order. And also, Tara (from ‘Tamasha’) will actually help her. Geet will make a bad order, and Tara will help sort it out and get everything for everybody.” He added that some people would still be dissatisfied with the order.
Who Would Change Seats Halfway Through Dinner?
Next, the director was asked which character would not stay in their seat and would switch halfway. “I think everyone can do that. Especially Geet, Jordan (from ‘Rockstar’). Only very few people will be glued to their seats,” said the filmmaker.
Who Would Secretly Want to Leave After 20 Minutes?
When asked who would want to leave after 20 minutes in secrecy, the director replied instantly, “Jordan.” He added, “But it won't be a secret. He would just leave.” The ‘Rockstar’ director agreed that Jordan, played by Ranbir Kapoor, would not ask or tell anyone and would leave in plain sight.
Who Would Feel the Loneliest Despite Being Surrounded by People?
Imtiaz Ali was asked which character would feel lonely at a party. He said, “Well, if Veera has not had the experience of the abduction, then she would.” Veera, the young girl played by Alia Bhatt in ‘Highway’, is known for her powerful performance.
Who Would Pick Up the Bill, and Who Would Forget Their Wallet?
When it came to paying the bill, the unanimous answer was “Aditya (from ‘Jab We Met’).” The director explained that he is the richest of all. For the second part, he said, “Jai will definitely forget his wallet.” Jai Vardhan Singh, played by Saif Ali Khan in ‘Love Aaj Kal’.
If Stuck at Delhi Airport for 8 Hours, Which Character Would You Choose as Company?
Imtiaz Ali had an elaborate reply: “I think it's good to have somebody like Jordan. Because you're stuck for many hours. He'll create drama and keep life interesting. Tara and others are more congenial, but Jordan will be more entertaining in public.”
If All Characters Joined a Dating App, Who Would Get the Most Matches and Who Would Delete the App?
On matches, the director said, “All the girls will get all the matches because they're much more attractive. Tara and Heer will get a lot of matches.” For deleting the app within two hours, he said, “Veera, as she will say, ‘This is not making sense. I want some real experience.’”
