Meta Expands AI Dubbing for Reels to 5 Indian Languages
Meta AI Translates Instagram Reels in 5 Indian Languages

In a significant move to empower India's diverse creator community, Meta has announced a major expansion of its artificial intelligence-powered translation tools for Instagram and Facebook Reels. The company is adding support for five prominent Indian languages, dramatically increasing accessibility for regional content creators.

Breaking Language Barriers with AI

Meta AI will now enable creators to translate and dub their Reels into Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi, building upon the feature initially launched in October that supported English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese. This expansion represents Meta's continued commitment to one of its largest markets globally.

The sophisticated AI technology doesn't merely translate words but preserves the creator's authentic voice and tone during the conversion process. More impressively, a specialized lip-sync feature ensures the translated audio matches the speaker's mouth movements, maintaining a natural viewing experience that feels authentic to audiences.

New Indian Fonts Enhance Creative Expression

Alongside the translation features, Meta unveiled new Indian fonts specifically designed for Instagram edits. These fonts support Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts, allowing creators to style text and captions in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Assamese with culturally relevant typography.

The process to access these fonts is straightforward: creators simply need to open the editing timeline and select "Text" from the toolbar. Tapping the "Aa" icon reveals available fonts, with devices set to Devanagari or Bengali-Assamese scripts displaying these fonts by default. Users on other devices can filter fonts by language in the "All fonts" tab.

Comprehensive Creator Toolkit Expansion

Meta emphasized that these updates are part of a broader series of features recently introduced to enhance creativity on Instagram. The platform has been steadily building out its creator toolkit with capabilities including restyling photos and videos in Stories, bulk editing captions, reverse video playback, lip-sync functionality to animate photos, and access to 400 additional sound effects.

The new AI translation features and Indian fonts will become available on Android devices in the coming months, significantly expanding accessibility for creators across India's vast mobile-first user base. Given that India represents one of Instagram's largest markets worldwide, this expanded language support ensures regional creators can effectively reach broader audiences both within the country and across global platforms.

By combining cutting-edge AI-powered dubbing with culturally relevant fonts, Meta is strengthening Instagram's position as an inclusive platform for diverse voices and creative expression. This strategic move acknowledges India's linguistic diversity while providing technological solutions that help bridge communication gaps in the digital content ecosystem.
