Bokaro: The Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) has introduced an advanced rigid bronchoscope facility in its ENT department, which became operational on Thursday. This modern medical equipment will enable doctors to safely remove foreign objects lodged in the throat or windpipe of both children and adults during critical situations, according to hospital officials.
Common Incidents Involving Children
Doctors noted that such incidents are most common among children under five years of age, who often accidentally swallow coins, toy parts, seeds, or other small objects while playing. In many cases, these objects become lodged in the airway, causing breathing difficulties and life-threatening emergencies. Adults can also occasionally become victims of similar accidents.
Immediate Treatment Available
Manikant Dhan, Chief of Communication at Bokaro, stated, “With the new facility now operational at BGH, patients can receive immediate treatment without being referred elsewhere. During the procedure, the patient is administered general anaesthesia, after which ENT specialists use the rigid bronchoscope and telescope-guided technique to safely remove the object from the airway without any major incision or surgery.” This advancement is expected to significantly improve emergency care for airway obstructions in the region.
