LSG vs RCB: Pant Admits Batting Shortfall After Loss

Lucknow Super Giants Seek Redemption Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Following a disappointing home defeat to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, the Lucknow Super Giants are gearing up for their next challenge against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The crucial encounter is scheduled for Wednesday at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where LSG will aim to bounce back from their recent setback.

Current Standings and Recent Performance

The Lucknow Super Giants currently occupy the sixth position on the IPL points table, having recorded two victories and two losses from their initial four matches of the season. Their most recent outing ended in a seven-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.

In that match, LSG managed to post a total of 164/8 in their allotted 20 overs. However, Gujarat Titans comfortably chased down the target of 165, reaching 165/3 in just 18.4 overs to secure a convincing victory.

Captain Pant's Candid Assessment

LSG captain Rishabh Pant provided a frank evaluation of his team's performance, acknowledging that their batting unit fell short of expectations. "Definitely not enough runs," Pant stated bluntly. "In a wicket like this, a score between 170 to 180 is really good. But the wicket kept on falling, and they put enough pressure on us to get those wickets going."

Pant further elaborated that while opportunities presented themselves during the match, his team failed to capitalize on crucial moments. "There were opportunities in the game. We just couldn't grab it enough," he admitted.

Pant Backs Experienced Batting Lineup

Despite the batting concerns, Pant expressed confidence in his team's composition and stressed the importance of maintaining perspective early in the tournament. "See, definitely it's a great lineup," he affirmed. "But the tournament has just started here. We're not putting pressure on players because, especially the senior guys, they know what to do."

The captain's comments suggest a strategic approach focused on allowing experienced players to find their rhythm without undue pressure, emphasizing that there is no need for panic at this stage of the competition.

Arjun Tendulkar's Off-Field Presence

While not featuring in the playing XI against Gujarat Titans, Arjun Tendulkar—son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar—remained part of the LSG squad's activities. He was spotted at the airport alongside his LSG teammates, accompanied by his sister Sara Tendulkar and wife Saaniya Chandhok.

Both Sara and Saaniya had previously been present in the stands at the Ekana Stadium, cheering for LSG during their clash against Gujarat Titans. Arjun, who was purchased by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 30 lakh at the IPL 2026 auction, recently married Saaniya in a grand ceremony in Mumbai on March 5, 2026.

Looking Ahead to Bengaluru Challenge

As LSG prepares to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the team faces several key questions:

  • How will the batting lineup respond after being identified as the primary weakness in their previous match?
  • Can the experienced players Pant referenced deliver under pressure at the challenging M Chinnaswamy Stadium?
  • What tactical adjustments will the team make to counter RCB's strengths on their home ground?

The upcoming match represents a critical opportunity for Lucknow Super Giants to demonstrate resilience and climb higher in the IPL standings. With the tournament still in its early stages, Pant's leadership and the team's ability to learn from their mistakes will be tested against a formidable Royal Challengers Bengaluru side.
