A civic volunteer attached to the Sealdah Traffic Guard was reportedly assaulted by a biker and his associates in the Palmer Bazar area of Kolkata. The incident occurred when the volunteer, Saroyar Molla (33), along with a traffic sergeant, stopped the accused for riding without a helmet.
During the routine check, the biker failed to produce documents for his newly purchased two-wheeler. The traffic sergeant initially flagged down the rider for not wearing a helmet. When the rider could not provide vehicle registration and insurance papers, the sergeant instructed Molla to seize the motorcycle.
While the rider protested, he secretly called his friends to the spot during the seizure process. Soon, a group of youths arrived and attacked Molla. Despite the physical assault, the traffic team managed to retain the bike, though the accused fled the scene.
Molla sustained injuries and was taken to NRS Medical College, where he received treatment and was later discharged. An FIR was registered at the Entally Police Station, and a manhunt has been launched for the accused.
This attack, which took place on Monday, marks the third assault on traffic personnel during the ongoing campaign against helmetless riders in the city this month.
