The Nagpur mayor received an email on Wednesday claiming that a bomb had been planted at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in the city. Acting swiftly, the police deployed a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) to conduct a thorough search of the premises. However, after an extensive sweep, no suspicious items were found, and authorities have deemed the threat a hoax.
Details of the Incident
The threatening email was sent to the mayor's official account, prompting immediate action from law enforcement. Police officials confirmed that the BDDS team, along with sniffer dogs, combed the RSS headquarters and surrounding areas. The search operation lasted several hours, but nothing incriminating was discovered.
Police Response and Investigation
Senior police officers stated that they are taking the matter seriously and have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the email. Cybercrime experts are analyzing the email's metadata to identify the sender. Authorities have also increased security around the RSS headquarters as a precautionary measure.
A police spokesperson said, 'We received the complaint around 9:30 am and immediately rushed the BDDS team to the spot. After a detailed search, we can confirm that there is no threat to the public. We are working to identify the person behind this hoax.'
Previous Incidents
This is not the first time the RSS headquarters has been targeted with such threats. In the past, similar hoax emails and phone calls have been reported, leading to heightened security protocols. However, no actual explosives have ever been found on the premises.
The RSS, a prominent Hindu nationalist organization, has its headquarters in Nagpur, which also serves as a key administrative hub. The organization has condemned the threat and urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
Public Advisory
Police have advised citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. They also urged the public not to spread unverified information that could cause panic.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as the cybercrime team makes progress in tracing the email source.
