Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shatters Fastest Fifty Record in List A Cricket
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed a 21-year-old record for the fastest List A fifty, scoring an 11-ball half-century for India A in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla on Sunday. He surpassed the previous record held by Sri Lankan Kaushalya Weeraratne, who achieved the milestone in 12 balls back in 2005.
Sooryavanshi, who is set to make his India debut later this month, finished with 94 runs off just 29 balls, including 10 fours and eight sixes. He was caught at mid-off in the ninth over with the score at 132, falling just short of equaling Jake Fraser McGurk's 29-ball century record.
Explosive Start and Tactical Brilliance
Having not made a big score in the league stage, Sooryavanshi came out aggressively from the first ball. His first five deliveries yielded two sixes and three fours. He reached his half-century with a couple of sixes down the ground off pacer Dulaj Samuditha. His innings featured effortless sixes over extra cover, three in total, which were the highlight of his knock.
According to reports, Sooryavanshi targeted the leg-side off the pacers initially before picking the extra cover region after the opposition placed an extra fielder on the on-side. His ability to hit good balls out of the park stood out once again.
Heated Exchange and IPL Form
Earlier in the tri-series, Sooryavanshi was involved in a heated exchange with a Sri Lanka A player after being sledged during an ill-tempered league fixture. The young talent had earned his India T20 call-up for the Ireland and England tour following breathtaking performances in the IPL playoffs.
Sooryavanshi's 94 off 29 balls was another reminder of his rare talent. The boy from Bihar continues to impress with his explosive batting and has now etched his name in the record books with the fastest List A fifty.
