Sciver-Brunt fit for T20 World Cup semi-final vs SA

England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt has been declared fit for the Women's T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa, captain Heather Knight confirmed on Thursday. Sciver-Brunt had been sidelined with a minor injury but has recovered in time for the crucial knockout match.

Recovery journey and team update

Speaking to the media ahead of the semi-final, Knight provided an update on Sciver-Brunt's fitness. "Nat is fit and available for selection. She's worked hard on her recovery and is ready to go," Knight said. The all-rounder missed England's final group-stage match but is now fully fit.

Sciver-Brunt has been a key player for England in the tournament, scoring 112 runs in three innings at an average of 56.00 and taking three wickets. Her return bolsters England's middle order and bowling attack.

England's semi-final preparations

England finished second in Group A with four wins and one loss, behind India. They face South Africa, who topped Group B with five wins. Knight emphasized the importance of the match. "South Africa are a strong side, but we are confident in our abilities. We have a balanced squad and are ready for the challenge," she added.

The semi-final will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. England have a strong record against South Africa, winning 12 of their 17 T20I meetings. However, South Africa have been in excellent form, winning all their group matches.

Key players to watch

Apart from Sciver-Brunt, England will rely on opener Danni Wyatt, who has scored 144 runs in the tournament, and spinner Sophie Ecclestone, who has taken eight wickets. For South Africa, captain Laura Wolvaardt leads the run charts with 201 runs, while non-bowler Marizanne Kapp has taken nine wickets.

Knight also praised the team's depth. "We have players who can step up in any situation. The squad is in good spirits, and we are looking forward to the game," she said.

Impact on the tournament

Sciver-Brunt's availability is a major boost for England as they aim to reach their third consecutive T20 World Cup final. They lost to Australia in the 2020 final and were runners-up in 2018. South Africa are seeking their first final appearance.

The winner of this semi-final will face either Australia or India in the final on Sunday. Australia are the defending champions and have won the last two titles.
