Tragic Cricket Game in Rajkot: 19-Year-Old Student Drowns in Unused Pool
A casual game of cricket turned into a devastating tragedy in Rajkot on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old student. Dharmin Moridhara, a second-year BTech student at VVP Engineering College, lost his life after slipping into an unused swimming pool while attempting to fetch a cricket ball.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in the city's Avadh area near a locked bungalow. Moridhara had just completed his exams earlier in the day and joined his friends for a friendly cricket match. During the game, the ball landed inside the bungalow's pool area.
In an effort to retrieve the ball, Moridhara climbed into the pool. However, he slipped on accumulated algae, fell into the water, and drowned. Friends and nearby residents quickly pulled him out and attempted to administer CPR before rushing him to Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance.
Tragically, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police Investigation and Family Background
The Metoda GIDC police have registered an unnatural death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragedy is particularly heartbreaking as Moridhara was the only child of his parents. His father, Hitesh Moridhara, works as a mason, and the family resides in Jalaram Society near Om Nagar in the Mavdi area of Rajkot.
