Pune's running community is set to receive a significant boost this weekend with a dedicated workshop designed to help athletes navigate the demanding marathon season. A specialised camp titled "Surviving the Marathon Season" will be held at the I-Sport Hospital in Balewadi, Pune, offering crucial insights for runners of all levels.
Expert-Led Sessions for Holistic Runner Development
The comprehensive programme, scheduled for Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm, aims to equip participants with the knowledge to train intelligently, avoid common injuries, and maintain their physical and mental health. The event will feature a roster of distinguished experts, each bringing a unique perspective to the table.
Attendees will learn running fundamentals from Varun Pujar. Medical expertise will be provided by Dr. Madhura Kulkarni, who will discuss foot and ankle injuries, and Dr. Sumedh Magar, who will cover common running injuries and their prevention strategies.
Training, Strength, and Nutritional Guidance
A key highlight will be the session by Boston Marathon qualifier and running coach Swara Ahluwalia. She will share her expertise on managing training for multiple races effectively, helping runners avoid burnout and maintain peak performance throughout the season.
Strength and conditioning will be addressed by coach Surabhi Date, whose impressive background includes work with the Indian Boxing Federation and former captaincy of the Indian women's rugby team. She will emphasize the critical role of strength training in a runner's regimen.
Perhaps one of the most pivotal talks will be on race nutrition, led by Maitreyi Bokil, an expert in nutrition and exercise physiology. A seasoned athlete herself—a 10-time marathoner, Ironman finisher, and 70.3 Ironman World Championship qualifier—Bokil stresses the make-or-break power of diet.
"Nutrition, the most important discipline after training, can easily make or break a race," she said. "Eating the right food at the right time is crucial for training, recovery and performance on the race day."
A Must-Attend Event for Pune's Running Enthusiasts
This workshop represents a valuable opportunity for Pune's active running population to learn directly from top-tier professionals. By focusing on a smart, informed approach to training, injury management, and recovery, the camp promises to be an essential resource for anyone looking to thrive during the upcoming marathon season, rather than just survive it.
