A tragic incident unfolded in Bharatpur district on Friday when a 31-year-old man shot his wife during a pre-wedding function before turning the gun on himself and dying on the spot, police said.
Victims Identified
The deceased was identified as Raghvendra Kumar Thakur, a resident of Baruar in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The injured woman is his 28-year-old wife, Radhika. Thakur worked as a cab driver in Agra.
Sequence of Events
The incident took place around noon in Roopwas town, where wedding ceremonies were underway at the woman's parental home. According to police, Thakur shot himself in the chest after first firing at his wife. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Radhika sustained a gunshot wound in her chest and remains in critical condition. She was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur. As per the latest reports, she was being shifted a second time to Jaipur for advanced treatment.
Background of the Conflict
Investigators said Radhika had come to her parental home in Roopwas a few days ago to attend her cousin's wedding. Thakur, who had initially refused to attend the ceremony, reached his in-laws' house late Thursday night. On Friday afternoon, the couple reportedly got into an argument in the middle of a family gathering.
Roopwas SHO Vinod Meena stated, "Family members told us the two were arguing. Thakur then took Radhika into a room and bolted it from inside." Moments later, relatives heard two gunshots. They broke the door open and found the couple lying in a pool of blood.
Recovery of Weapon
Police said blood was found splattered across the floor, and a crude country-made firearm was recovered from the room. Investigators added that the exact reason behind the argument was not yet known. While police have found no evidence of any ongoing marital dispute, some family members described Thakur as short-tempered.
