Kanpur Chess Champions Crowned; BCA Legends Win Cricket Tie

The city of Kanpur witnessed a vibrant Sunday of sports, with champions being crowned in chess and cricket. The one-day prize-money chess championship at the Vedic Dharm Sabha in Govind Nagar concluded with Vikas Nishad and Anushree Tandon emerging as the top players in their respective sections.

Chess Champions Take Home Trophies and Cash Prizes

In the open section, Vikas Nishad demonstrated superior skill, scoring 5.5 points to secure the championship. His victory earned him a cash prize of Rs 3,000 along with the winner's trophy. The runner-up position was claimed by Mridul Shukla, who finished with five points and received Rs 2,500.

In the women's category, Anushree Tandon outperformed her competitors to claim the top spot, winning a corresponding cash prize and trophy. The event saw strong performances across the board, with Sanjeev Mishra, AP Singh, Shubh Awasthi, and MS Siddiqui all finishing with 4.5 points, placing third to sixth respectively.

Other Notable Performances and Appointments

The tournament also recognized talent across age groups. Surendra Kumar Mishra won the 65+ age group title with four points, while Adyansh Singh Chandel was crowned the under-15 boys' champion, winning Rs 1,000.

Dilip Srivastava, secretary of the Kanpur Chess Association, reported that 35 players participated in the event. The prizes were distributed by chief guest Virendra Singh Chandel.

In a separate development, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, an international technical official, has been appointed as the technical official for the athletics championship under the Khelo India University Games in Jaipur from December 1 to 4.

BCA Legends Dominate in Sunday League Cricket

On the cricket field, the Cawnpore Sunday league witnessed a commanding performance at the BCA ground. BCA Legends secured a convincing eight-wicket victory over Patel Properties in a day-and-night encounter.

Batting first, Patel Properties posted a total of 188 for 9 in their 30 overs. The BCA Legends, in reply, chased down the target comfortably, reaching 191 for 2 in just 22.5 overs. The chase was powered by a brilliant, unbeaten 88 from Swar Tandon, who was named Man of the Match, and a solid 76 from Dharmendra Yadav.

The results from Sunday highlight the thriving local sports culture in Kanpur, where chess and cricket continue to engage and produce talented athletes.
