Youth Congress Worker Injured in Violent Dehradun Cafe Altercation
A 27-year-old Youth Congress functionary sustained significant injuries during a physical confrontation between two groups at a cafe in Dehradun's Patel Nagar area. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, with police providing details on Saturday after learning about it from an informer.
Escalation from Argument to Physical Violence
The woman had visited the café with friends to attend a birthday celebration when an argument erupted between some members of her group and another group present at the venue. According to SP (Rural-Rishikesh) Jaya Baluni, the disagreement quickly escalated beyond verbal exchanges.
"Following the argument, both sides came out of the café and assaulted each other," Baluni stated. "During the scuffle, someone from the other group struck the woman on the head, causing her to bleed."
Medical Treatment and Police Investigation
The injured woman was immediately rushed to a hospital where medical professionals administered approximately eight stitches to her head wound. Doctors who examined her confirmed she had been struck with a hard, blunt object, contradicting some claims circulating on social media platforms.
The medical examination also noted that the woman was in an inebriated condition at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, the accused individuals fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Formal Complaint and Legal Action
Later, the woman's brother filed an official complaint at the Patel Nagar police station, identifying three individuals as responsible for the attack: Ayush Rawat, Suraj Rana, and Himanshu.
Police have registered a case under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 118(1) for voluntarily causing hurt
- Section 352 for insults intended to provoke breach of peace
Authorities confirmed that active efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the three named accused. The investigation continues as police work to reconstruct the exact sequence of events that led to the violent confrontation at the popular Patel Nagar establishment.
