Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a surprise visit to Gorakhpur on Wednesday to personally assess the progress of key infrastructure projects that are set to transform the city's connectivity. The Chief Minister's on-ground inspection focused on ensuring that all development work adheres to strict timelines without any compromise on quality.
Spot Check on Major Road Projects
The centerpiece of the Chief Minister's review was the ambitious Gorakhpur–Pipraich four-lane road project. Yogi Adityanath arrived at the construction site near Vikas Bharati School crossing in the afternoon. He meticulously examined the project layout, technical drawings, and the current status of the ongoing work.
Officials from the PWD Construction Division-III, which is executing the project, provided details. The 19.485-kilometer-long road is being built at a substantial cost of Rs 942.44 crore. The work commenced on February 11, 2025, and has a strict deadline for completion by August 31, 2026.
During the inspection, CM Yogi issued clear directives to accelerate the pace of construction. He emphasized that quality standards must be maintained at the highest level and there should be no shortcuts. A specific instruction was given to ensure proper water-level grading along the road to prevent any future waterlogging issues, a common problem during monsoon seasons.
Review of Associated Infrastructure
While at the site, the Chief Minister also took stock of two other critical projects in the vicinity. He reviewed the progress of the Jungle Kaudia–Jagdishpur ring road which passes through the area. For this project, he instructed officials to speed up the work and target completion by September 2026. He further asked them to assess the width of the Bishunpur underpass to guarantee smooth traffic flow once operational.
Earlier in the day, Yogi Adityanath inspected the nearly finished Khajanchi Chauraha flyover. This project, with a budget of Rs 96.50 crore, is in its final stages. Officials informed the CM that over 99% of the work is already complete, with only minor tasks remaining. The Chief Minister directed the team to wrap up all pending work and inaugurate the flyover at the earliest to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Tribute to a Veteran Social Worker
Beyond infrastructure, the Chief Minister's visit also had a personal element. He paid heartfelt tributes to noted social worker Parmeshwar Prasad, a lifelong associate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), who recently passed away.
CM Yogi visited Prasad's residence at Reti Chowk and offered floral tributes to his portrait. He prayed to Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath for the eternal peace of the departed soul. The Chief Minister also spent time consoling Prasad's son, Pradeep, and other family members, offering his condolences and support in their time of grief.
The simultaneous focus on accelerating development and honoring social contributors underscores the state government's dual approach under CM Yogi Adityanath's leadership. The timely completion of these road projects is expected to significantly boost Gorakhpur's economic growth and improve the daily commute for thousands of residents.
