UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Issues Directives for Farmer Assistance Following Heavy Rains
In response to the persistent and unseasonal rainfall that has impacted multiple districts across Uttar Pradesh over recent days, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken proactive measures to safeguard the agricultural community. On Tuesday, the CM issued a series of clear instructions to state officials, emphasizing the urgent need to provide comprehensive support to farmers facing crop damage and related hardships.
Direct Communication and Field Assessments Mandated
Yogi Adityanath stressed that administrative officers must maintain constant and direct communication with farmers during this period of adverse weather conditions. He acknowledged that the unexpected rains have disrupted the peace and livelihoods of farmers, but reassured them that the government stands firmly as their support system. The CM stated, "Given the adverse weather conditions, administrative officers must remain in constant contact with farmers. Unseasonal rains have disrupted farmers' peace, but the govt stands firmly as their support and will ensure that they do not face undue hardship."
To ensure accurate and timely intervention, the Chief Minister has called for detailed reports from all concerned district magistrates. These reports must cover the current status in their respective areas, the extent of crop damage, and the specific difficulties being encountered by farmers. He further directed the DMs to personally visit affected farmers and ensure that subordinate officials are actively engaged in field operations.
Expedited Compensation and Zero Tolerance for Negligence
The Chief Minister outlined a strict timeline for the assessment and disbursement of compensation. He instructed officials to "assess crop loss at the earliest and also issue compensation in a time-bound manner." Every possible effort must be made to minimize the disaster's impact on the farming community. Compensation for loss of life, livestock, injuries, and all other affected individuals must be ensured within a fixed timeframe. Yogi Adityanath warned that any negligence in this critical matter will not be tolerated by the administration.
To streamline the process, the CM has placed all relevant departments on high alert. He has instructed officials from the revenue and agriculture departments, along with representatives from insurance companies, to conduct a joint survey of the crop losses. This collaborative assessment is to be reported to the government immediately to facilitate the prompt issuance of compensation without unnecessary delays.
Enhanced Coordination and Oversight
Ensuring seamless coordination across various governmental bodies, Yogi Adityanath has tasked the principal secretary of agriculture and the relief commissioner with maintaining direct communication with field officials. Their role is to oversee and ensure effective coordination between all departments involved in the relief efforts. This move aims to create a unified and efficient response mechanism to address the farmers' needs comprehensively.
