In a decisive move to bolster state security, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated the use of cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), to dismantle networks involved in forced religious conversions and other serious crimes. The directives were issued during the concluding session of the two-day Police Manthan 2025 conference held in Lucknow on Sunday.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Cybercrime and Social Media Misuse
The Chief Minister called for a strict zero-tolerance approach against a spectrum of digital and organized crimes. He expressed grave concern over the misuse of social media platforms, deepfake technology, and the dark web by elements aiming to disrupt public order. Yogi Adityanath instructed senior police officers to maintain rigorous surveillance on social media and act swiftly against any content that threatens communal harmony or spreads hatred based on caste or religion.
He emphasized the need for police and intelligence agencies to immediately identify and take action against fake accounts, coordinated disinformation campaigns, and attempts to incite unrest or pressure law enforcement. The CM warned that no leniency would be shown towards individuals or groups trying to divide society along religious or caste lines, or those exploiting revered figures to create new outfits and fuel anarchy.
AI and Tech to Target Conversion Networks and Border Threats
Highlighting specific cases, such as those reported from Balrampur, CM Yogi described organized religious conversion activities as a serious challenge, possibly part of a well-planned international network. He directed the police to constantly monitor conversion-related activities, enhance intelligence gathering via social media monitoring, and ensure such attempts are neutralized at the earliest stage.
To combat these and other cross-border threats, the CM advocated for a technologically robust mechanism for surveillance along Uttar Pradesh's international borders with Nepal, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. He specifically instructed the use of artificial intelligence, financial trail analysis, and modern forensic tools to curb cross-border terrorism, drug trafficking, and internationally funded conversion rackets.
Cracking Down on Organized Crime and Cow Smuggling
The review also covered the state's ongoing crackdown on narcotics, terrorism, and organized crime. While praising the police's efforts, Yogi Adityanath urged them to intensify operations and improve real-time information sharing among departments to break the morale of criminal networks.
On the issue of cow smuggling, the CM stated that mere arrests are insufficient. He directed the police to identify and target the masterminds behind these networks, asserting that strong action against the entire chain would serve as an effective deterrent.
The Police Manthan conference featured detailed presentations on disaster management, crowd control, intelligence systems, and anti-terror operations. It concluded with a reinforced commitment to technology-driven, intelligence-led, and people-centric policing in Uttar Pradesh.
