Background and Decision-Making Process

This wage revision comes directly in the wake of massive protests by factory workers in Noida on Monday, where thousands of labourers demanded higher wages and improved working conditions. The demonstrations escalated into violence in certain parts of the district, prompting the government to establish a committee to address the situation comprehensively.

The government conducted extensive consultations with employers' bodies and labour organizations before finalizing the new wage structure. All suggestions and objections were thoroughly reviewed to ensure a "balanced and practical" outcome that considers both worker welfare and economic feasibility.

The retrospective implementation from April 1 ensures that workers receive the increased wages for the current financial period, providing immediate financial relief to those affected by the previous lower wage rates.
