Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Conducts Comprehensive Review of Agra's Development and Governance
In a significant move to bolster progress in the historic city, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya conducted an extensive review of development projects, government schemes, and law and order in Agra on Wednesday. The high-level meeting, held at the Circuit House, focused on accelerating implementation and rectifying administrative shortcomings to enhance public welfare and urban infrastructure.
Infrastructure and Environmental Initiatives Prioritized
Maurya emphasized the urgency of advancing key infrastructure works, directing officials to expedite preparations for an international stadium by swiftly identifying suitable land and formulating a detailed proposal. Environmental conservation efforts were also highlighted, with specific orders issued for the desilting of the Yamuna River and the repair of ghats. He called for a structured proposal under the Namami Gange programme to ensure systematic execution of these vital tasks.
Addressing Public Grievances and Governance Reforms
Expressing deep concern over persistent complaints regarding delayed electricity reconnections despite bill payments, the Deputy CM mandated immediate restoration of services and stringent action against responsible officials. Issues related to smart meters were also discussed, underscoring the need for technological efficiency in utility management. To improve administrative responsiveness, Maurya ordered the transfer of revenue and village-level officials who have been stationed in one location for over two years, along with police personnel, aiming to foster accountability and fresh perspectives.
Urban Development and Social Welfare Directives
In a bid to enhance urban living conditions, Maurya directed a comprehensive survey of colonies lacking water supply despite existing pipelines, with a goal to achieve universal coverage. A joint team comprising the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the irrigation department, and the municipal corporation was tasked with resolving chronic waterlogging along the Waterworks–Sikandra stretch. Additionally, he ordered the relocation of a hazardous road structure near Agra College to ensure public safety.
Further directives included the beautification of Ambedkar parks to uplift community spaces and a strict emphasis on 100% admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Schools were warned against violations, reinforcing the commitment to educational equity and social justice in the region.
