Kilagada Government School Celebrates 120 Years with Nostalgic Reunion
A wave of nostalgia swept through Kilagada village in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Thursday as former students, serving and retired employees from various sectors, and retired teachers gathered to inaugurate the two-day centenary celebrations of the Government School in Munchingiputtu mandal. The event marked a significant milestone for the institution, which has been a cornerstone of education in this tribal hamlet for over a century.
Emotional Reunion of Alumni and Educators
Several alumni and former teachers, who travelled from different parts of Andhra Pradesh to attend the event, were visibly emotional as they revisited their alma mater. Former students expressed immense pride that a government school in a tribal area was celebrating 120 years in such a grand manner. They fondly recalled the school's humble beginnings, established by the British in 1905 as a primary school with just one teacher and a handful of students. Over the decades, it has been upgraded into a government high school offering education from Classes I to X, symbolizing growth and resilience.
Inauguration of New Facilities and Book Release
On the first day of the celebrations, the Sri Ambidi Appanna Vaijnanika Kala Vedika, built by the Atmatrupti Charitable Trust, was inaugurated on the school premises. This new facility aims to enhance cultural and scientific activities for students. Additionally, a book titled "Centenary Celebrations of Kilagada School and History of Kilagada Village" was released by former and retired teacher Sasibhushana Rao, documenting the rich heritage and evolution of the school and village.
Felicitations and Legacy of Notable Alumni
Eighty-five-year-old Vanthinibha Kondaiah, who was born and brought up in Kilagada, studied at the school, later served there as a teacher, and retired from the same institution, was felicitated on the occasion. His lifelong dedication highlighted the school's enduring impact. Over the past ten decades, the school has produced several notable alumni, including teachers, doctors, engineers, banking professionals, police and forest officials, corporate leaders, and political figures, showcasing its role in shaping diverse careers.
Conclusion of Celebrations
The centenary celebrations, which began with great enthusiasm, are set to conclude on Friday, as announced by the organizers. This event not only commemorates the school's 120-year journey but also reinforces the importance of government education in rural and tribal communities, inspiring future generations to value their roots and educational heritage.
