A bus driver in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, died of a heart attack on Friday after heroically steering his vehicle to safety, preventing a major tragedy that could have killed over 30 passengers. The incident occurred near Naya Baans village, close to Beswan town, when driver Ganesh Kumar, employed by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest while driving the Mathura-Aligarh bus.
Driver's Quick Actions Save Lives
Before losing consciousness, Kumar managed to slow the bus down and steer it towards the side of the road. The bus struck an electric pole but did not overturn, thanks to his efforts. Passengers then rushed to the driver's seat, applied the brakes, and switched off the ignition, averting a potential disaster. No passengers were injured in the incident.
Officials Confirm Details
Madan Mohan Sharma, Assistant Regional Manager of Mathura Roadways, confirmed the sequence of events. "Driver Ganesh Kumar suffered a heart attack while driving the UPSRTC bus. He managed to slow the bus down while some passengers rushed to the driver's seat, applied the brakes and switched off the ignition, preventing a major accident," Sharma said. Kumar was rushed to a nearby hospital but died shortly after arrival.
Heroic Act Amid Crisis
The bus was carrying more than 30 passengers at the time. The alertness of both the driver and the passengers ensured that what could have been a catastrophic accident ended without any loss of life beyond the driver. Kumar's final act of duty is being hailed as heroic, as he prioritized the safety of his passengers despite his medical emergency.
