TMC Booth President Brutally Murdered in West Bengal's Poll-Bound District
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the political landscape of West Bengal, a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader was allegedly hacked to death in the North 24 Parganas district. The gruesome discovery was made on Thursday, as the state gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, heightening tensions in the region.
Victim Identified as Active Party Worker
The deceased has been identified as Masiur Gazi, a 41-year-old garment trader who served as the president of booth number 178 in the Champatala gram panchayat, located in the Deganga area. According to a senior TMC leader, Gazi was an active and dedicated party functionary, deeply involved in local political activities.
His blood-soaked body was found abandoned on the roadside near Nobbai Pat Gheri, within the jurisdiction of the Haroa police station. Initial investigations by law enforcement officials suggest a grim scenario: Gazi was likely murdered at a different location, and his body was subsequently dumped at the spot where it was discovered.
Police Launch Comprehensive Investigation
A police officer involved in the case stated, "Prima facie, it appears that he was hacked to death and the body was disposed of here. An investigation has been initiated to uncover the full details of this heinous crime." Authorities are exploring multiple angles, including potential internal rivalries within political circles and possible business disputes that might have led to the killing.
Ranjay Pramanik, a TMC member of the Deganga panchayat samiti, confirmed Gazi's role as a booth president and emphasized his commitment to the party. "Gazi was an active party worker and held a significant position in our local setup. His loss is deeply felt," Pramanik remarked.
Political Tensions Rise Ahead of Elections
This incident has triggered significant political tension in North 24 Parganas, a district scheduled to participate in the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections on April 29. With the polls looming, the murder of a key party worker has raised concerns about security and stability in the region.
Police have assured that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly probed to ensure justice is served. The investigation aims to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the perpetrators, with a focus on maintaining law and order during this critical electoral period.
As the community reels from this tragedy, the incident underscores the volatile nature of politics in West Bengal, where such violent acts can have far-reaching implications for the democratic process. Authorities continue to urge calm and cooperation as they work to resolve the case swiftly.
