In preparation for the upcoming state assembly general elections, Thiruvananthapuram District Collector Anu Kumari, who serves as the district election officer, conducted a comprehensive inspection of key election infrastructure across the city. Her visit focused on ensuring the readiness of reception and distribution centers for electronic voting machines, secure strong rooms for ballot storage, and training facilities for polling personnel.
Site Inspections at Educational Institutions
The collector's tour included visits to several prominent educational institutions to assess election-related arrangements. She examined the facilities at Mar Ivanios College, Mar Baselios College of Engineering, and the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Pattom. These sites are being utilized as part of the logistical setup for the elections, with a focus on the proper handling and storage of voting equipment.
Training Centers for Polling Officials
Anu Kumari also inspected training centers located at the Planetarium and the DPI Cooperative Building. These centers are designated for the training of presiding officers and first polling officers, who play a critical role in the smooth conduct of voting. The training programs are essential to ensure that all officials are well-versed in election protocols and procedures.
In the first phase of training, a total of 20 training halls have been established across 10 centers throughout the Thiruvananthapuram district. This initial training phase, which is scheduled to continue until Saturday, involves an extensive cohort of 9,520 polling officials. The scale of this training underscores the district's commitment to conducting a fair and efficient electoral process.
The collector's proactive approach highlights the administrative efforts to address any potential challenges and maintain the integrity of the election. By personally overseeing these preparations, Anu Kumari aims to foster public confidence in the electoral system and ensure that all logistical aspects are managed effectively ahead of polling day.
