VCK Chief Thol Thirumavalavan Justifies Assembly Poll Bid, Aims to Amplify Marginalized Voices
Thirumavalavan: MP Seeks MLA Role to Boost State Politics for Marginalized

VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan Defends Assembly Election Candidature as MP

VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on Monday provided a detailed justification for his decision to contest in the upcoming Assembly election despite currently serving as a Member of Parliament. He articulated that his primary motivation is to return to state politics, where he believes he can more effectively champion the causes of marginalized communities.

Focus on Advocacy for Marginalized Groups

Speaking to reporters after attending a tea party hosted by the Chief Minister, Thirumavalavan emphasized, "The main objective of contesting in the election is to raise my voice for marginalized people more efficiently in the state assembly." He clarified that his ambition is solely to become an MLA, stating, "I want to become an MLA, nothing more," underscoring his commitment to local governance over national parliamentary duties. Thirumavalavan currently represents the Chidambaram Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing Bypoll Concerns and Alliance Dynamics

When questioned about potentially forcing a bypoll in the Chidambaram constituency due to his Assembly bid, Thirumavalavan pointed out that he is not alone in this move. He noted that other parties are also fielding MPs, such as the AIADMK with Rajya Sabha MP C Ve Shanmugam and the Congress with its Puducherry CM candidate V Vaithilingam. This, he argued, is a strategic decision within the political landscape.

Thirumavalavan expressed confidence in the DMK-led alliance's prospects, asserting, "We expect that our alliance led by DMK will win. We believe VCK will make a huge contribution to the alliance." He further committed to ensuring the alliance remains cohesive, highlighting the importance of unity in the face of increased competition.

Strategic Response to BJP's Growing Presence

In light of the BJP contesting more seats in Tamil Nadu, Thirumavalavan warned of a potential increase in their vote share. He stressed the necessity for the alliance to maintain strength, stating, "This time BJP is contesting in more seats in Tamil Nadu, and there is a possibility of their vote share increasing. So we should also stay strong in the state." This remark reflects his strategic focus on countering opposition forces to secure electoral success for the DMK-led coalition.

Overall, Thirumavalavan's decision is framed as a calculated step to enhance his political impact at the state level, driven by a desire to advocate for underrepresented groups and fortify the alliance against emerging challenges.
