Telangana Government Announces Massive Rs 20,000 Crore Investment for Hyderabad's Development
In a landmark announcement, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has revealed that the state government has earmarked a staggering Rs 20,000 crore exclusively for the development of Hyderabad over the next two years. This unprecedented allocation, described as the largest in the state's history for the city, was disclosed during his address at the CREDAI Property Exhibition Show held at HITEX last week.
Historic Funding Allocation for Hyderabad's Growth
Vikramarka emphasized that such a substantial financial commitment to Hyderabad's development has never been seen before in Telangana. "This massive allocation of funds, exclusively for Hyderabad's development, has never occurred in the state's history," he stated, as reported by ANI. The deputy chief minister highlighted that several projects under this funding have already been completed, with many others currently in progress.
The detailed breakdown of the Rs 20,000 crore allocation includes:
- Rs 1,950.52 crore for works within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits
- Rs 12,500 crore for projects under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB)
- Rs 4,365 crore under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA)
Comprehensive Infrastructure Development Across the City
Under the innovative Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure Programme (H-CITI), over Rs 7,032 crore is being invested in transformative projects. These include the construction of 45 major flyovers and underpasses, along with 10 significant road widening schemes. Vikramarka assured that "this development is being carried out in a balanced manner across the entire city," ensuring no area is neglected.
Key infrastructure projects receiving substantial funding include:
- Rs 1,090 crore for traffic decongestion measures around KBR Park
- Rs 837 crore for multi-level flyovers at IIIT and Khajaguda in western Hyderabad
- Rs 70 crore for road widening projects in western neighborhoods
- Rs 960 crore for alternative road networks in northern areas near the Army Ordnance Centre
- Rs 416 crore for flyovers at TKR College, Gayatri Nagar, and Mandamallamma Junction in eastern Hyderabad
- Rs 863 crore for southern road-widening works
Strategic Vision for Hyderabad's Global Competitiveness
Vikramarka positioned Hyderabad as a city competing not just with other Indian metropolitan centers but with leading global cities for investment, talent, and quality of life. He highlighted the strategic merger of 27 surrounding urban local bodies into GHMC as a "landmark step" enabling integrated planning, consistent civic services, and a unified development vision within the Outer Ring Road region.
The deputy chief minister emphasized that "economic growth must go hand in hand with social justice and equal opportunities," assuring that Hyderabad would remain Telangana's primary driver for employment, innovation, and investment while ensuring inclusive benefits for all residents.
Sustainable Urban Development and Governance Renewal
Beyond physical infrastructure, Vikramarka underscored the government's commitment to sustainable and climate-resilient urban planning. This includes developing a comprehensive Storm Water Master Plan for low-lying areas, implementing integrated spatial and mobility plans through the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA), and creating blue-green master plans to enhance environmental sustainability.
"Growth must be sustainable, development must be ethical, and progress must be humane," he asserted, highlighting the administration's holistic approach to urban development.
Rebuilding Trust in Governance and Public Institutions
In his concluding remarks, Vikramarka framed the infrastructure development as part of a broader mission to restore public confidence. "We are not just building flyovers and roads. We are rebuilding trust in governance. We are restoring faith in public institutions," he declared, reaffirming the government's commitment to serving the people.
The deputy chief minister called for collaborative efforts between government, industry, and citizens to transform Hyderabad into a world-class city. He reiterated the administration's strong support for the real estate sector, noting that the presence of senior minister Uttam Kumar Reddy at the event demonstrated the government's commitment to this vital industry.
Vikramarka concluded by emphasizing that Hyderabad's success in global competition requires more than just capital and technology, stating that "trust in public institutions, social harmony, and political stability are also essential" components that the government is fully committed to providing.
