Telangana Government Fast-Tracks Airport Development in Three Districts

In a significant push to enhance regional connectivity, the Telangana government is accelerating comprehensive plans to develop new airports in Warangal, Adilabad, and Kothagudem districts. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy confirmed that detailed action plans have been prepared for these proposed projects, with efforts being fast-tracked to ensure early execution.

Minister Reviews Proposals with Airport Authority Officials

Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy recently chaired a high-level meeting to review the airport proposals. The meeting included key officials such as Airports Authority of India Southern Region Executive Director Raj Kishore and Aviation Director Bharat Reddy. During the discussions, the minister emphasized the need for swift coordination with the central government to expedite all necessary works.

"We are committed to advancing these airport projects rapidly," stated Minister Reddy. "Our focus is on seamless collaboration with central agencies to overcome any hurdles in land acquisition, technical clearances, and infrastructure development."

Detailed Progress on Each Airport Project

The government has made substantial headway on the Warangal airport initiative. Approximately 953 acres of land have already been acquired by the state and formally handed over to the central government. Authorities are now finalizing plans to lay the foundation stone for this project in the near future.

For the Adilabad airport, officials have decided on a collaborative development model. The project will be jointly executed by the defence and civil aviation departments in partnership with the Telangana government. A master plan is slated for immediate preparation, and the government has initiated the required land acquisition process. This airport is expected to significantly boost transport connectivity in northern Telangana, facilitating economic growth and accessibility.

Regarding the Kothagudem airport, earlier assessments indicated that the initially proposed site was unsuitable for development. Consequently, a fresh detailed study will be conducted to prepare a new feasibility report, ensuring the selection of an optimal location that meets all technical and operational requirements.

Strategic Importance and Future Outlook

The development of these three airports aligns with Telangana's broader strategy to improve regional infrastructure and stimulate economic activity. By enhancing air connectivity in these districts, the state aims to:

  • Boost tourism and business travel
  • Support local industries and trade
  • Provide better access to remote areas
  • Create employment opportunities during and after construction

Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reiterated the government's dedication to transforming Telangana's aviation landscape. "These airports are not just infrastructure projects; they are gateways to prosperity for our regions," he affirmed. The state's proactive approach, including rapid land acquisition and inter-departmental coordination, underscores its commitment to timely project completion.

As these plans move forward, stakeholders will monitor progress closely, anticipating that these airports will play a pivotal role in Telangana's continued development and integration into national and global networks.
