In a blistering critique of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Tuesday described the state's current law and order situation as "emergency-like" and demanded immediate intervention to protect citizens, particularly women and students.
Sharp Attack on Women's Safety Record
Targeting the Nitish Kumar-led administration over a disturbing series of criminal incidents across multiple districts, Tejashwi highlighted several recent cases that have sparked public outrage and protests throughout Bihar. The RJD leader specifically referenced the suspicious death of a medical aspirant in Patna, along with separate rape cases reported from Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, and Gopalganj districts.
"The daughters are completely unsafe under the NDA rule in Bihar," Tejashwi declared in a strongly-worded social media post, adding that "Samuche Bihar ke liye ye aapatkalin sthiti hai (This is an emergency situation for the entire Bihar)."
Student Death Triggers Statewide Protests
The opposition leader also drew attention to the tragic death of a final-year engineering student at a technical institute in Sitamarhi district, an incident that has triggered widespread demonstrations and raised serious questions about campus security and institutional accountability. Tejashwi asserted that these consecutive incidents have exposed fundamental lapses in the state's law enforcement mechanisms and governance structures.
Alleging that criminals were operating with impunity under political patronage, the RJD leader characterized the daily criminal incidents as "unbearable, painful, terrifying and bone-chilling." He accused the NDA government of displaying both inactivity and indifference toward the deteriorating security situation, claiming the administration had come to power "by hook and crook" rather than through genuine public mandate.
Demand for Governance Focus
Tejashwi urged ministers and leaders of the ruling alliance to shift their attention from political targeting of opposition parties to substantive governance issues. "The government needs to wake up and save the lives of daughters," he demanded, calling for concentrated efforts on education, healthcare, agriculture, and public safety instead of what he described as repetitive opposition-bashing.
"Ministers and leaders of the ruling alliance should focus on governance, education, health and law and order instead of repeatedly targeting the opposition," the RJD working president emphasized during his critique of the state administration's priorities.
Strategic Shift in Political Stance
The sharp attack marks a significant departure from Tejashwi's earlier position. After returning to Patna from an international tour earlier this month, the RJD leader had publicly announced his intention to refrain from targeting the NDA government for 100 days. However, following his election as the party's national working president on Sunday, he has resumed aggressive criticism of the ruling coalition on multiple fronts.
Broader Critique of State Administration
Beyond law and order concerns, the RJD has expanded its offensive against the Bihar government on additional governance issues. The party has characterized the state's healthcare system as being in "ICU" condition, suggesting critical dysfunction requiring emergency intervention. Furthermore, RJD leaders have accused the administration of overcharging farmers for essential agricultural inputs like fertilizers and chemicals, claiming that agrarian distress continues to be systematically ignored despite its devastating impact on rural communities.
Political Context and Implications
The renewed political offensive from Bihar's principal opposition party comes at a crucial juncture when law and order, women's safety, and overall governance have emerged as dominant political flashpoints in the state. With assembly elections still some distance away, these issues are likely to shape political discourse and public perception in the coming months, potentially influencing both policy responses and electoral calculations.
Tejashwi Yadav's forceful intervention highlights the RJD's strategy to position itself as the primary voice challenging the NDA government's record on public safety and administrative effectiveness. As political tensions escalate, the exchange between ruling and opposition parties is expected to intensify, with each side seeking to frame the narrative around governance and accountability in India's politically significant eastern state.
