Tamil Nadu witnessed a massive turnout of voters on Thursday as the state went to the polls for the 2026 Assembly elections. Over 4,000 candidates are contesting across 234 constituencies, with the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK leading the fray.

Palaniswami Expresses Confidence

In Salem, AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami exuded confidence that his party would return to power. Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, he said, "The people of Tamil Nadu have always supported good governance. I am confident that the AIADMK will form the next government."

High Voter Enthusiasm

Polling began at 7 a.m. and continued till 6 p.m. in most constituencies. Long queues were seen outside polling stations across the state, especially in urban areas. The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of over 60% by 3 p.m., with expectations of a final turnout exceeding 75%.

Results will be announced on April 26, 2026. The winning party needs at least 118 seats to form the government.
