Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin Launches Scathing Attack on BJP-Led Centre
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday launched a fierce political offensive against the BJP-led Central government, accusing it of disseminating what he termed "saffron lies" that he claimed exceed even the most blatant falsehoods. Addressing a spirited rally in Tiruppatur, Stalin delivered a comprehensive critique of the Centre's approach towards Tamil Nadu while unveiling ambitious welfare initiatives under his administration's "Dravidian Model 2.0."
Accusations of Misinformation and Historical Neglect
Stalin directly challenged Union Minister Piyush Goyal's recent comments suggesting Tamil Nadu's development was regressing. "Tamil Nadu consistently secures prominent positions across all Union Government rankings," Stalin asserted. "Having witnessed 'green lies' (blatant falsehoods), we now confront 'saffron lies' that surpass even those in magnitude."
The Chief Minister pointedly questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other central leaders avoided visiting the significant Keezhadi archaeological excavation site despite campaigning in nearby areas. "Why does the historical pride of Tamils provoke such bitterness in you?" he demanded, highlighting what he portrayed as deliberate neglect of Tamil heritage.
Political Warnings and Economic Achievements
Stalin issued a stark political warning, asserting that voting for any party outside the DMK-led alliance would indirectly bolster the BJP's position. He accused the opposition AIADMK of compromising Tamil Nadu's autonomy, declaring, "Even an AIADMK victory would effectively establish BJP governance here."
Countering claims of developmental stagnation, Stalin presented compelling economic data: Tamil Nadu leads the nation in industrial production and textile exports while ranking second in both GDP and per capita income. These achievements, he emphasized, directly contradict central government narratives about the state's progress.
Dravidian Model 2.0: Comprehensive Welfare Initiatives
The Chief Minister detailed extensive welfare commitments under the "Dravidian Model 2.0," positioning them as transformative for Tamil Nadu's social fabric:
- Illatharasi Scheme: Women will receive coupons valued at Rs 8,000 specifically for purchasing essential household appliances, enhancing domestic efficiency and economic empowerment.
- Magalir Urimai Thogai Enhancement: The monthly financial assistance for women will be doubled from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, providing substantial support to female-headed households.
- Educational Technology Initiative: The government aims to distribute laptops to 35 lakh college students by 2030, bridging digital divides in higher education.
- Agricultural Support: Paddy procurement prices will be raised to Rs 3,500 per quintal, ensuring better remuneration for farmers and strengthening food security.
"Just as Leader Kalaignar fulfilled promises of color televisions and gas stoves, his son will implement the Illatharasi scheme without compromise," Stalin pledged, connecting current initiatives to his father's legacy.
Contrasting Governance Visions
Stalin framed the upcoming electoral choice as decisive between a "progressive Tamil Nadu" and what he characterized as "jungle rule" prevalent in BJP-administered states. He cited specific incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Manipur as examples of governance failures under BJP leadership.
During campaign events across Tiruppatur and neighboring constituencies, and earlier in Pudukkottai, Stalin repeatedly emphasized his unwavering commitment to preserving Tamil Nadu's autonomy. He firmly declared that no financial pressures from the Centre would compel the state to abandon its cherished two-language policy, reinforcing regional linguistic identity.
The Chief Minister's remarks, reported by PTI, represent a significant escalation in political rhetoric ahead of crucial elections, blending sharp criticism of opponents with detailed policy prescriptions aimed at consolidating his administration's developmental narrative.
