Tragic Suicide in Andhra Pradesh After Marriage Proposal Falls Through
A deeply distressing incident has emerged from Martur in Bapatla district, Andhra Pradesh, where a 25-year-old software engineer and her 46-year-old mother died following an alleged suicide attempt. The tragedy unfolded after the sudden and shocking cancellation of a marriage proposal, plunging the family into despair.
Family Background and Marriage Arrangements
The family at the center of this heartbreaking story consists of Sirikonda Srinivasa Rao and his wife Sujatha, residents of BC Colony. They have two children: a son currently working in the United States and a daughter, Divya, aged 25. Divya had been employed at a software company in Hyderabad for the past three years, building her career as a professional in the tech industry.
The family had recently arranged Divya's marriage to a software engineer from Martur, fostering hopes for a happy future. The engagement ceremony was successfully conducted on December 14 of last year, and preparations were actively underway for the wedding, which was scheduled to take place during the summer months.
Sudden and Dramatic Turn of Events
The situation took a devastating turn on March 4, when the groom, identified as Seshu Babu, reportedly called Divya and her parents to his residence in Martur for a discussion. During this meeting, he allegedly presented them with photos and videos, claiming he had secretly followed Divya in Hyderabad and recorded her movements without her knowledge.
Based on this material, Seshu Babu informed the family that he was unwilling to proceed with the marriage, delivering an unexpected and crushing rejection. This abrupt cancellation deeply upset both Divya and her mother, Sujatha, leading to severe emotional distress.
The Tragic Outcome and Medical Efforts
According to relatives, the mother and daughter allegedly purchased rat poison and herbicide in Martur before proceeding to Dronadula village, where they consumed the toxic substances. On the evening of March 5, Srinivasa Rao discovered them unconscious and immediately rushed them to a hospital in Chilakaluripet.
They were later transferred to separate private hospitals in Guntur for advanced medical treatment. Despite the doctors' relentless efforts and critical care, their condition remained grave. Tragically, both Divya and Sujatha were declared dead on Thursday, marking a profound loss for the family.
Police Investigation Underway
In response to this tragic incident, Srinivasa Rao filed a formal complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case. The information has been forwarded to the Martur police station, where authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
