SNDP Yogam Leader Clarifies Stance on Failed NSS Unity Initiative
SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan addressed media queries in Kochi on Sunday, firmly stating that his recent initiative to foster unity between SNDP Yogam and the Nair Service Society (NSS) was devoid of any political motives. This move, which ultimately collapsed, has been a topic of significant discussion in Kerala's socio-political circles.
No Electoral Agenda Behind Unity Efforts
Natesan emphasized that the unity bid was not focused on elections or political gains. "There was no political motive behind it. The move was not focused on elections," he asserted, adding that there is no need for further media debate on the issue. He declined to comment on NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair's reported lack of faith in the initiative, highlighting his desire to move past the controversy.
SNDP Yogam's Stance on Upcoming Assembly Elections
When questioned about SNDP Yogam's potential support for any political party in the upcoming assembly elections, Natesan clarified that the organization is unlikely to issue a directive to its community members. "I don't think SNDP Yogam will take a decision asking community members to vote for a particular party," he said. He explained that community members support various parties and will vote based on individual choices.
Natesan further noted that any decision to support a party would require a formal meeting of the SNDP Yogam board. "Only the board council can take such a decision. Let the election be declared and candidates announced. Only after that, the board will meet and express its opinion," he stated, underscoring the procedural aspects involved.
Views on Sabarimala Gold Scam and Political Blame
Addressing the Sabarimala gold scam, Natesan argued that it is inappropriate to implicate political alliances like the UDF or LDF. He suggested that only certain individuals may have colluded with the Tanthri and other officials. "We cannot blame a party for it. These are individual acts," he remarked, distancing the broader political entities from the scandal.
Regarding UDF convenor Adoor Prakash being questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, Natesan expressed skepticism, calling it an election stunt. "After that, there will be no talk of gold plating or Lor Ayyappa. I believe this is an election stunt and will remain so till then," he said, implying that the issue is being politicized ahead of the polls.
Conclusion: A Focus on Community Autonomy
In summary, Vellappally Natesan's statements reinforce SNDP Yogam's commitment to maintaining a non-partisan stance, allowing its community members to exercise their voting rights independently. His remarks also reflect a cautious approach to political engagements, emphasizing organizational protocols and individual accountability in ongoing controversies.
