Siddaramaiah Promises Congress Victory, Backs Kambala Development

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Confident of Congress Victory in 2028 Elections

In a strong declaration of political intent, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asserted that the Congress government will return to power in the state in 2028. He made this statement while inaugurating the 15th Floodlit Moodooru–Padooru Jodukare Bayalu Kambala at Kodibailu in Bantwal taluk on Saturday. The event was organized under the leadership of former minister B Ramanath Rai.

Reflecting on Past Achievements and Future Goals

Siddaramaiah highlighted his previous tenure as chief minister from 2013 to 2018, describing it as a "golden era" marked by financial stability. "During that time, our government never faced a financial crisis, and we will not face one now either," he emphasized. He praised Ramanath Rai as one of the most honest ministers in his cabinet, noting that despite an allocation of Rs 5,000 crore to Rai's constituency, he lost the election. However, Siddaramaiah expressed confidence that Rai will contest again in 2028 and win by a larger margin.

Commitment to Pro-Poor Policies and Guarantee Schemes

The Chief Minister reiterated his government's dedication to serving the poor, marginalized communities, Dalits, farmers, women, and laborers. "Those at the top of society must work to empower the weak and provide self-reliance," he stated. To this end, the Congress administration has implemented five guarantee schemes aimed at economic and social empowerment. Siddaramaiah linked this effort to broader democratic principles, arguing that true democracy cannot be achieved without uplifting the poor both economically and socially, a vision rooted in India's independence since 1947.

Support for Kambala: A Unifying Folk Sport

Quoting Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, Siddaramaiah noted that 23 major Kambala events are held in the coastal region. He recalled attending a Kambala event organized by Rai at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru, praising the sport as a popular folk activity that transcends caste and religious barriers. "Everyone comes together to participate in this sport. It is our collective responsibility to preserve and promote it," he said. The Chief Minister pledged full government support and funding for the development of Kambala, underscoring its cultural significance.

Infrastructure Development and Funding Appeals

Former minister B Ramanath Rai appealed to the Chief Minister to release funds in phases for constructing a taluk stadium in Benjanapadavu. He mentioned that 10 acres have been identified and Rs 10 crore sanctioned for the stadium, but work has yet to commence. This request highlights ongoing efforts to boost local infrastructure and sports facilities in the region.

The event underscored the Congress government's focus on social welfare, cultural preservation, and political resilience as it gears up for future electoral battles.
